Sessão 3 Sven Rosenkranz (Freie Universität Berlin/ LOGOS – language, logic and cognition group, Universitat de Barcelona) Frege, Relativism and Faultless Disagreement _____
05-08-07 Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian is making every effort to have the Portuguese translation of Bertrand Russell’s Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy (1919) available by this coming July (translated by myself, with an explanatory Portuguese general introduction). In this elegant work, Russell summarizes his Logicist Program, articulating it with his views on the semantics for a given language and, in particular, with his well known Theory of Definite Descriptions.
Last but not least: it was a special pleasure to discuss my last paper on fictional names at my own University. Thanks to students, colleagues and friends! The Centro de Filosofia (Philosophy Centre) of the University of Lisbon went through a process of substantial reorganization. As a consequence of that, seven areas of philosophical research have been created within it. Analytic philosophers (in the lack of a better choice, I use this imperfect designation) are all included into the area called "Language, Mind and Cognition". We are having some new ideas in order to develop the philosophical research in the group
02-06-07 I want to thank the UCSB and the UCR Philosophy Departments (US) and the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas of the UNAM (Mexico) for the discussion of a recent paper of mine (on fictional names) which title is “Why I couldn’t possibly have had dinner with Michael Corleone”. I thank also the hospitality and the kindness of the people in these places. I shall be presenting this paper at my own University (Lisbon), June 1,
Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, Sala Matos Romão (Departamento
de Filosofia), 17h. All are very welcome to discuss fictional names, from
a philosophical point of view. 20-05-07 Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa Seminário de Filosofia Analítica 2006-7 http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0154943702/sfa.html Sessão 3 Teresa Marques
28-02-07 Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa Instituto Filosófico Pedro Hispano Seminário de Filosofia Analítica 2006-7 Sessão 2 Josep E. Corbí (University of València) 16-02-07 Congratulations to Ana Sofia Soares and Fernando Janeiro for their master degree in Philosophy, by the University of Lisbon, in the Philosophy of Language. It was a pleasure for me to supervise both of them. Thank you for all the discussions and all the best for you! 22-12-06 I’ll be mostly away from Lisbon for the next academic year. But I will keep people informed over many things that happen in the University of Lisbon, within the analytic philosophy tradition, and maybe also in UCLA (where I will be staying). Please don’t miss this website! I will continue to supervise students and I’m available to communicate with everyone who wishes so. 03-12-06 Bertrand Russell, Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. To appear in Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian edition. Translation and Introduction by Adriana Silva Graça. 01-10-06 Update to the Curriculum Vitae. 01-10-06 1st Lisbon Workshop on Semantics Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon 6-7 October 2006(+) 23-06-06 I want to thank Professor Joseph Almog for his presentation at our seminar and for having made possible another great discussion on the Philosophy of Language. Thanks to the students too, for their insightful comments. I want to thank Professor David Kaplan for his two brilliant lectures at the University of Lisbon. We could testify, vividly, the great philosopher and the great teacher he has been. Although it was not planned to be this way, the fact is that Professor Kaplan talked about my favourite philosopher, Bertrand Russell, the one who has most influenced me, particularly, about the connection between Russell’s semantics and his epistemology; more, he discussed with us, an alternative view on Meaning and Comprehension. It was indeed an honour to attend to his lively discussion on this topic. As usual, thanks also to the students!

01-04-06 I wish to thank Professor Howard Wettstein for his talk “Doing without Content”, which has motivated a great discussion on the main topics belonging to the Philosophy of Language, i.e., naïve, Fregean and direct reference models of assessing meaning and content, as well as the importance of social practices for the proposed account of meaning without content. Last but not least, I want to thank my students of the Philosophy of Language undergraduate course, of the Graduate Seminar and those who are working in their thesis with me, for having decisively contributed to the discussion around those topics. Hope we can have more sessions like this one in the near future!
